Our Story…
Hello, I am David Mirabal, CEO & Founder of Green North Studio. For years, I was in search of the origins of my passion for architectural documentation and design, as well as why it would bring me so much joy to attempt to record every special or historical space I have encountered with. It might be a restored historical-valued dwelling or building, or a simple torn-down, old house lost in time in the middle of nowhere. Every space has a history or a story behind it. My quest for an answer ended when I found this photo of my mom and my great grandmother standing on the porch of this humble, but beautiful home in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, a month just before I was born, in 1967. The moment I saw this photo, everything came together…that home represented love, and my roots. The balcony was one of my favorite places to play every time we visited Doña Elisa (my great-grandmother). With each visit, I explored every corner of the house and its surroundings ending up always in the cantilevered kitchen at the back of the house. That’s where I used to have these great conversations with my bisabuela (great-grandmother in Spanish) about her childhood, with a cup of coffee at hand (which, by the way, is where my passion for coffee comes from too!) . The rooms were not enclosed by doors, but with thin, ordinary cloth curtains. That’s what made it so special! The love for every detail, every corner of this house is what awakened my passion.
Simply said, that humble dwelling is what led me into my passion & admiration for historical valued spaces. I firmly believe that through drawings and photo documentation is my way of giving many forgotten spaces the place they deserve in history, because every dwelling, every building, every space treasures a story that deserves to be told & recorded for posterity.
